The Cambridge @ Midwood Nursery 1 children had an exciting hands-on activity making blueberry muffins. The children learned about various ingredients such as flour, sugar, eggs, milk and of course, blueberries! They learned to identify and name the ingredients which helped enhance their vocabulary and understanding of basic food items. The children took turns measuring out the ingredients using cups and spoons, and mixing the ingredients allowed them to observe how different items combine to form a batter, and they learned the importance of following steps in a sequence.
Once the batter was ready, the children scooped out the batter into muffin paper cup and placed them in the oven. The children were fascinated by how the batter transformed into muffins during baking. The highlight was tasting and sharing their delicious creations, which not only taught them about baking but also encouraged teamwork and sharing. This activity was a great way to develop fine motor skills, cognitive development, and social interaction.
